Numpy and Pandas

For much of the course, we will need to use array functionality of python. Such functionality is not an inherent part of the python language, but instead a part of the numpy and the pandas package.

  1. Install the numpy, pandas, scipy, statsmodels, lifelines (the later ones will be introduced later in the course.) This can be done e.g. through pip, by running the command
sudo pip install numpy scipy matplotlib pandas statsmodels lifelines
  2. Read through numpy’s own quickstart tutorial. Make sure you run through the provided examples in a jupyter notebook of your own.
  3. Check in your scripts into your own github account.
  4. Acquaint yourself with pandas by running the data carpentry lesson Python for ecologists. Perform the excersices up to “Data workflows and automation”, i.e. chapter 5.
